Organic Influence Overseas

We continue to see organic icons in many product categories influencing home decor through color, material and pattern.

Bringing “The Outdoors, Indoors” is not just a trend these days, it’s a lifestyle. The connection to nature has never been stronger for most people, especially in times of such uncertainty throughout the world.

Traveling through Paris, London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt last week confirmed that in the coming year we will continue to see more products relating to and influenced by nature.

MERCI…in Paris

Have you been? To Merci in Paris! You know the lifestyle store that has a cult following from all over the world…which I guess includes me!

Take a detour…you will be happy you did…111 Boulevard Beaumarchais in Le Marais..but really outside the main area of Le Marais…

Merci never disappoints because they are on the cutting edge of style and fashion in both clothing and home decor…the way Barney’s NYC was years ago.

The vibe…very busy with trendy people from all over the world coming to see the newest textures, substrates, colors and style updates. Today they were making chair tops from a powder substance that allows you, the consumer to design your chairs on the spot in the store…pretty awesome, pretty millennial and pretty fast!

So take that detour when in Paris and checkout what’s happening in the world of design…Merci!

Holiday Favorites..

Sharing some of our holiday favorites from Design Works International created for Dollar Tree Stores…we love collaborating with our creative clients…Happy Holidays.🎄

Passion for Product-A designer’s life…

Thankful for this rainy Saturday so I can catch up on life….seems like the past 28 years of growing Design Works International, our NYC based design studio, has been a non-stop labor of love…and on Monday August 1st we are officially in our new location at 494 8th Ave. (entrance on 35th street on the 12th floor)…phone number remains the 212-594-0777.

This labor of love is proud to acknowledge our amazing team of sales consultants, textile and graphic designers, interior specialists as well as trend, color and fabric liaisons.

Our new location is a state of the art “play house” for us and we could not be happier in our new home…even though it will take us a few weeks to finish the design details within the studio!

When we started out 28 years ago our focus was mostly in the fashion arena and today we are truly a lifestyle studio working with top brands, retailers and celebrities in both the fashion and home sectors.

Our digital printing facility has allowed us to move forward on product based samples while working with some of the top talent from runway to retail! More to come on this in the coming months….introducing Studio NYC!

Our textile collections are seen at Designer Show Houses as well as retail chains across the country…from tissue boxes, baby bouncers, fashion accessories, back to school supplies, wallpaper and the product list continues….

Our “passion for products” is never ending and we look forward to another “decade of design”.

We appreciate your support and design ❤️ over the years and look forward to seeing you at 494!

Pillow Power Personality

For many of us a great way to have your personality pop in your home is to update  your style through decorative accessories, perhaps a more affordable option than replacing a sofa, chair or ottoman…and a quick fix to any room in your home!

Choices today can vary through color, material, texture, weave and pattern. Trim detail is another way of adding dimension such as cross stitch accents, metallic trim detailing, fringe, pom-poms and piping.

Most of us have a color scheme defined already by the larger items in our home like a sofa or chair so work with updating these items with colors that will compliment these pieces. Sometimes  that means bringing a bit of contrast into the room…it’s not always good to match your pillows to the exact tone of your furniture. Try experimenting with patterns and colors out of your comfort zone to update your style. Many stores today have a 48 hour return policy so you can take home your choices to see you made the right design choice!

Some fun finds both local as well as overseas…

A Whole Lotta Love #DOAD (design on a dime) New York City

If you have never been to a “Design On A Dime” event…you should put it on your “interior bucket list”…take some of interior industries movers and shakers, donated interior products from top manufactures, prices below wholesale and an amazing cause…building homes for New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS…this equals “A Whole Lotta Love”… not to mention a whole lotta FUN……warning…this event is packed to the brim with serious buyers that are willing, ready and able to snatch up their incredible finds in a matter of seconds…take me for example..I am beyond thrilled with my “Pelle Bubble Gold Leaf Light Fixture” handmade in Brooklyn that I spied…..and waited until 6:30pm when the event went live…reached for the ticket and literally turned around and paid to secure my amazing purchase.

Take a peek at some of the very creative vignettes curated by top industry movers and shakers…(this event successfully debuted in Miami earlier this year) and happens in NYC every April at the Metropolitan Pavilion at 125 West 18th Street.
